What is crowdfunding?
Crowdfunding is the practice of funding a project or venture by raising many small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the internet.
How do I know if crowdfunding is right for my initiative?
Most successful crowdfunding projects have a moderate fundraising goal, a 30–90 day timeline, and have a strong social network for support.
How do I start a crowdfunding project?
Submit the online application! Be prepared to describe the project and what the funds will be used for, your financial goal, and your promotion plans. (Please note: We will need specific fund information to move forward. If you do not already have a fund set up, contact the Michigan Tech Fund.)
After we receive your application, a staff member from the Office of Advancement & Alumni Engagement will reach out to you for confirmation of details before moving forward.
How can I drive traffic to my project?
The best way to get the results you desire is to utilize your personal social channels and contacts to spread the word. For most instances, you (or your area) are responsible for spreading the word. But, in some instances, the Office of Advancement & Alumni Engagement can work with you to send targeted promotions. We will help you determine the target audience, the timeline of sending an appeal based on other priorities and projects, and which path you should take that will set you up for success!

How do I make a gift by check?
Please mail your check, payable to Michigan Tech Fund, to Michigan Tech Fund, 1400 Townsend Drive, Houghton, MI 49931. On the memo line, please include the name of the project you would like to support.
How do I make a gift of securities?

I am an employee of MTU. Can I make a gift via payroll deduction?

Do you accept matching gifts from my employer?

When will my credit card be charged?
Your credit card will be charged immediately upon finalizing your gift on this site.
Will I receive a receipt for my contribution?
You will receive an email receipt from the Michigan Tech Fund. If you have any questions, please call 906-487-2310 or email gift-admin@mtu.edu.
Is my contribution tax deductible?
The portion of your donation that exceeds the fair market value of any perks received is tax-deductible, as prescribed by law. The tax-deductible amount of your donation will be stated in your email receipt, but please consult with your tax advisor for more information.
