Michigan Tech has a long history as a dominant force in NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey and all of our Division II sports. A major building block of that history is the critical role that our Sports Medicine team plays in the prevention and care of sports-related injuries. The Michigan Tech Sports Medicine staff has a tradition of providing quality medical care for the student-athletes at Michigan Tech. Our main athletic training room services almost 400 student-athletes. We recognize each injury is an important moment in a student-athlete's life and we aim to educate them about their injury as well as return them to play safely. Our sports medicine team of experts includes; team physicians with specialties in orthopedics, surgeons, primary care physicians, certified athletic trainers, and student athletic trainers. Our certified athletic trainers provide daily coverage of our 14 NCAA Division I & II sports and are proud to work with students across campus who are interested in being student athletic trainers. This program provides students with a well-rounded education, while providing ample opportunities for instruction and interaction from our sports medicine team, and other specialists as deemed appropriate. These students are prepared for careers in an expanding field that unites athletics, medicine, and health care.
With our aging main athletic training room, it's becoming increasingly hard to provide exceptional medical care for our student-athletes. Our major needs are complete renovation of our main athletic training room in the SDC, including new hot and cold tubs which are original to the facility. We would also like to purchase new electrotherapy and laser therapy machines.
