The Sailing Club at Michigan Tech is a registered student organization. This coed sailing team allows undergraduate students of all sailing abilities to compete at regattas around the Midwest.
The majority of regattas are held in Collegiate 420s, although the club has sailed Flying Juniors in the past. The Sailing Club's fleet of boats consists of six Collegiate 420s and a 470.
The Sailing Club practices on the Portage Canal and launches boats between the Super 8 and the Houghton Waterfront Pavilion. The fall season begins at the start of the school year and ends in October. The club sails Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings.
Club members travel to regattas throughout the Midwest—Wisconsin, Minnesota, Northwestern and Western Michigan, and more—to compete against other collegiate sailing teams. Regattas are held on the weekends at other Universities throughout the Midwest. The Michigan Tech Sailing Club typically sends 4–5 sailors who travel to the regatta site Friday afternoon and return Sunday night.
Alumni donations will help the Sailing Club purchase and maintain equipment that would enable more participation in Sailing Club activities.
