About Sound and Lighting Services

Sound and Lighting Services is a student organization handling the majority of audio and visual needs around the campus. Operating everywhere outside the Rozsa Center, the organization helps with everything from the Parade of Nations and Winter Carnival to comedians in the MUB Ballroom. In addition, they have a close relationship with the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts and Visual and Performing Arts department to help enhance their shows.

As the organization continues to receive requests for outdoor events, like Winter Carnival, they have concluded that it would be beneficial to upgrade the gear to outdoor-rated equipment when the time comes. For the majority of the moving light fixtures, that time has already arrived. They are currently planning to upgrade the lights in stages, starting with moving profile fixtures (think remotely controlled spotlights).

The current fixtures are coming up on 15 years of service, and are showing signs of imminent failure. Upgrading these lights will allow the organization to produce higher quality lighting for shows both indoors and outdoors, as they will be modern LED fixtures. In addition, these lights will be IP-rated, meaning there will be fewer concerns about using them outside.
