Support Recreation in the Keweenaw

Support Mont Ripley Expansion

With 115 acres in the snowiest place in the Midwest, Mont Ripley is a vital recreation resource for Michigan Tech and the Keweenaw. As the University and community expand, there are opportunities for our facilities to grow and enhance the accessibility of our facilities and ski hill to better welcome everyone who comes to enjoy Mont Ripley. Will you show your support of Mont Ripley with a gift today?

Mont Ripley Expansion Projects:

Chalet Improvement/Expansion
The Mont Ripley Chalet was built in 1965 when Tech’s enrollment was 3,400. It is more than double that now, with 44 percent of the student body visiting the ski hill last winter.

Top to Bottom Beginner Run
The completion of a new top-to-bottom beginner run would better serve guests of all abilities including those who utilize adaptive ski equipment. The early stages of a beginner run has already been started to the far east side of the current skiable terrain.

Additional Parking
By providing more convenient parking options, more community members can enjoy a day of skiing!

These previous capital projects for Mont Ripley have been successful:

  • An all-hill lighting system was installed in 1997 and allows for wintertime evening recreation.
  • Snow-making capability for the entire hill in 2006 and adds weeks to both ends of the season.
  • In 2007, the Copper Hoist chair lift was added, doubling our chair capacity.
